Youth Energy Leadership Camp

Youth Energy Camp is July 18th – 22rd, 2022

Registration due date is April 26th

Registration forms can be found at the South Central Public Power District office or within your Rural Electric Magazine.

The annual NREA Youth Energy Leadership Camp involves about 100 highly motivated high school-aged men and women from Nebraska, Wyoming, South Dakota and Colorado whose homes are served by one of the Nebraska Rural Electric Association’s member-systems. As a member-system, South Central PPD encourages young people from its service area to apply to attend this Youth Energy Camp at the beautiful State 4-H Camp in the Halsey National Forest. The camp is usually held the third week in July.

This camp offers educational and recreational experiences, leadership training, environmental awareness, character building and social interaction to its campers. Through workshops and guest speakers, campers learn about energy generation, electric safety and careers in the rural electric program. A highlight of each camp is the tour of NPPD’s Gerald Gentleman Power Station near North Platte and the Kingsley Hydro-Electric Generating Station at Lake McConaughy near Ogallala.

There is also a camp competition to select three Ambassadors from the camp to attend the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Youth Tour in Washington, DC the following June.

If your home is served by South Central Public Power District and you are in the 9th, 10th or 11th grade of high school, contact South Central PPD at 402-225-2351 or 800-557-5254 to obtain an application form for the Youth Energy Camp. If accepted to this all-expense paid camp, be prepared for an “electrifying” experience.
